How to Get to Malalison Island White Beach in Culasi Antique

Going to Malalison Island White Beach Resort in Culasi Antique:

The more attractive about the province are the natural beauty and enchantment and the many historical sites of Antique Province itself.  First,  from Iloilo, take Culasi bound buses (Ceres Bus Liner) or L300 van at Antique Transport Terminal in Molo, Iloilo City. Travel time from Iloilo City to Culasi is approximately 3 hours. Another option is to take an hour travel via bus from Caticlan, Malay, Aklan to Culasi. Upon reaching Culasi, head to the back of public market or ask the driver to drop you off at Culasi Municipal Hall. and rent a pumpboat or big banca to Malalison Island. The island can be reached after a 20 minute boat ride. The fare is about 50 pesos per person.

While the beaches on the other side of the island are mostly pebbles similar to Boracay’s Puka Beach.

Culasi Beach Resort in Antique

It has a great wide beach area in the whole province of Antique because of their blue crystal water, clean pebbled beach and coral reefs. You’ll pass through pretty, quiet, small towns with well-kept plazas, churches and schools.  There will be almost no tourist facilities because this area sees so few tourists.  If you stop at one of the towns to buy snacks the Antiqueños will be happy to see you.  The area is beautiful and very attractive if it will be developed as a big resort and accomodation as well.

Culasi in Antique: Roaming Around The Town

I had more fun in Antique because of the people, culture, simple life, great wide beach and peaceful place to live. According to the 2011 census, it has a population of 32,998 people in 6,396 households. With an area of 228.56 km² Culasi is one of the cities with a smaller urban area.  This pictures is taken at their Municipal Plaza and Culasi Monument located along the highway. The town is not so crowded,  everyone deserves a relaxing side trip.  I personally wanted to relax in a place with a few people.Culasi is politically subdivided into 44 barangays.  It just behind Mt. Madyaas, one of the highest mountain in Antique. Culasi is approximately 90 kilometers from San Jose de Buenavista, the capital town of Antique and 88 kilometers from Kalibo, the capital of Aklan.

Amazing Noah's Ark in Quezon Province

For this trip to Quezon Province, it will be done at Noah's Ark in Quezon Province. Noah's Ark is really a building with an exterior made to resemble the ancient boat where Noah's family took refuge from the Great Flood along with pairs of animals. It is not a museum nor a gallery for art exhibits and most of all, there’s no carnival inside of it though it is surrounded by life sized animal statues that makes it a tourist spot. This Noah’s Ark is incredibly built for spiritual healing place where retreats can be held.

The Healing Church at Kamay Ni Hesus, Lucban Quezon

Healing church is one of the must-see destinations for pilgrims during Lenten Season or Holyweek . It also offers healing masses led by Fr. Joey Faller, located over view of Mt.Banahaw. Shown here are the interior and exterior of the church, so nice and well constructed. The paintings behind the altar are very amazing. It is the side entrance that is used by visitors and some people who have found blessings through Father Faller and the Kamay ni Hesus Healing Center.

"papawisan ka ng sobra" hehehe! The five-hectare religious complex located in Barangay Tinamnam, some two kilometers away from the town proper of Lucban Quezon, is one of the popular Holy Week destinations in the country. Actually, going there is so easy because its is only along the highway if you are going straight to Lucban, Quezon. The place is popular and you can ask any bystander or driver and they will guide you.

Old Lucban Church in Quezon Province

I was amazed with the architectural design inside. This was my solo backpacking trip to Lucban Quezon last May 15, 2012. Lucban Church is dedicated to their patron saint commonly name as San Isidro Labrador and a truly a great example of old classical architecture in the Philippines. The first one was built in 1595 and was destroyed in 1629, and a second church was constructed between 1630 and 1640 but was seriously damaged by fire in 1738. What I heard is that the people in Lucban don’t like the exterior part to be repaired or repainted to maintain the church. On the right side of the church is the site of the La Casa de Doña Ana, a big "bahay na bato".

May is the month of fiesta! This was my first time to witness Pahiyas Festival 2012 in Lucban, Quezon Province last May 15, 2012 and these was part of my solo backpacking trip in the province. The festival of Lucban is the most colorful fiesta in the Philippines. Pahiyas Festival is also known to be the “Festival of Harvest and Blessings”. The festival’s make comes from the Filipino terms hiyas (jewel) and pahiyas (precious offering). Each household in Lucban are decorating the wall with "Kiping" and agricultural harvest is what "PAYAS" or "PAHIYAS" literally means. No wonder we have lots of festivals that we celebrate from different part of our country.

Cruz you can take a tricyle or jeepney going to the highway of Barangay Bangkuangan, from there you can take habal habal which cost you 50 pesos more or less. Looks very mysterious and remote to me. I guess it was only 5 to 7 feet in height. But nevertheless, it has several pools where you can swim.

Kawa Kawa Falls in Sta Cruz Marinduque

It is an ideal place for picnic and camping. A great place to relax and enjoy during weekends. Located at Barangay Bangcuangan Santa Cruz, Marinduque, about 1 hour away from the town of Sta. Cruz. The base of the Kawa-Kawa Falls forms a small pool that resembles a big pan, or locally known as “kawali” from which the waterfalls got its name. Hehehe! The water is so cold and its so relaxing, covering with trees and plants within the area. This falls is one of the popular place in the town of Sta. Cruz. There are many mini-waterfalls in the area, some very accessible, some needs short climbs and it is very slippery. My short trip in the Island of Marinduque was ended, it is very fulfilling and remembering.

Sta Cruz Church in Marinduque

Marinduque has a two old church, one in Boac and one in Sta. Cruz. Some say this town was called Sta. Cruz in Marinduque because of the Holy Cross brought by Magellan in Cebu. Others believe the legend that Sta. Cruz got its name from an apparition of a cross that guided the early missionaries to a safe landing place during a thunderstorm on one of their visits in the area where they erected a wooden cross on the mountain where Sta. Cruz Church now stands. A famous Marinduque pasalubong - uraro cookies are made from arrowroot, a tuber. The municipality of Sta. Cruz, known as the “Seafood Capital of Marinduque,” celebrated its annual Seafoods Fiesta from May 1 to May 3 as thanksgiving for the abundance of its aquatic resources. It is the only fiesta in the province which lasts for three days.

This was conceptualized last 2011, by now Congressman Lord Allan Velasco. For costumes, participants this year have been encouraged to incorporate local materials that are commonly used or are unique to their localities. It has been noted that while many participants still use wooden masks, masks made of papier-mache are extensively used for the Battle of Morions competition.

Best White Beach in Marinduque: Poctoy White Beach Resort,Torrijos

Traveling to the island province of Marinduque during the Holy Week was a test of patience. But rewards are abound. The stretch of white sand beach of Poctoy is proof to that. The privacy of a beach cove was perfect for sleeping right at the shore. The one-kilometer long, fine white sands of Poctoy White Beach is probably one of the best and frequented beaches in Marinduque.

Sunset View at Poctoy White Beach in Marinduque

I like seeing sunset at the beach .Poctoy White Beach Resort is perfect for this summer 2012. It is in Torrijos Marinduque, 31 kilometers from the town of Buenavista. That's about 1.5 hours away from Buenavista. A stretch of white sand beach, this resort is one of the most frequented beaches in the province. Going to Marinduque is usually commenced by a bus ride to Lucena. From there, you can board a ferry to either Sta. Cruz or Mogpog towns. Within the island, tricycles, jeeps, and vans ply inter-town routes, but be advised that places are faraway from each other, and transpo costs are quite significant.

Hidden Lagoon in Poctoy White Beach,Torrijos Marinduque

I was surprised of the Hidden Lagoon located at the end point of Poctoy White Beach Resort. So I decided to check out the area were people come and go. It has a white fine sand and rocky limestone formation. At the center it has a swimming pool like lagoon which people can enjoy. Torrijos waters is clean but there's sea grass in its waters, which may bother other swimmers but it is a favorite swimming and picnic area on this side of the province. One can have a very good view of Mt. Malindig on the south. Some of the private resorts owned by many Europeans are located here due to very nice secluded white sand beaches.

A Perfect View of Bellarocca Island Resort in Marinduque

Wow! That's what people say when entering the gate of Bellarocca which is opened its doors to the public last February 2009 and full operations last January 2012. Located at Barangay Tungib, Lipata Buenavista Marinduque about 30 minutes away from the twon. This small island is perhaps similar to all other islands off the coastline of Marinduque. Each island are similarly hugged by the calm sea and highlighted by the blue sky. Fresh sea breeze and  in front of the island stands the majestic Mount Malindig. As my research Bellarocca is a resort full of contrasts. “Bella” is Italian (or Greek?) for beautiful, “rocca” is rock. This small, green island off the edge of Marinduque (Philippines) is home to white-walled architecture inspired by Santorini (Greece).

Sister Convent at the side of Boac Cathedral in Marinduque 2012

The most interesting thing in Boac Marinduque is the old fortified church and convento at the side of the Church. The Boac Cathedral stands at the top of a hill as seems guarding the whole of Boac.

Historical Church of Boac Cathedral in Marinduque

After dining at La Concha Restaurant in Boac. I immediately went to Boac Cathedral and take somes pictures before going to Buenavista. The church has its old gate structure and as you enter main door of the church you can see the thick and two old wooden doors.  A visit to Boac Cathedral is one sample of how an old church was preserve. According to the story inspired the creation of a new name for the Lady as Birhen ng Biglang Awa. The cathedral was dedicated to her, the 'Mother of Instant Mercy', (Pronto Socorro), in 1792. A marker on the church's front wall declares thus: "naniniwala ang mga tao na siya ang nagligtas sa pagsalakay ng mga moro noong ika-18 dantaon."

The "Moriones" are men or women in costumes and masks replicating the garb of biblical Roman soldiers. Moriones Festival in Marinduque " The Heart of the Philippines" is an annual fiesta held on Holy Week in the island.  The festival is celebrated the whole province of Marinduque. I was able to witness the festival last April 4, 2012 - first day of my 2nd solo backpacking trip to South Luzon. Marinduque is considered as the Lenten Mecca of the Southern Tagalog because of the Moriones Festival. Historically, the Moriones Festival started in Mogpog, Marinduque in 1807 as a dramatic play to commemorate the passion and crucifixion of the Lord Jesus Christ. Then later on, the tradition spread to other Marinduque towns like Gasan, Boac, and Torrijos.

Welcome to Marinduque 2012: Balanacan Port in Mogpog

Yes! Marinduque the heart of the Philippines! Last Holyweek of April 2012, I had a solo backing trip to witness the Moriones Festival. I had to go early to Alabang Terminal in Muntinlupa at exactly 9:00pm, to catch up for the 12:00mn  ferry boat ride going to Balacan Port in Mogpog Marinduque. Waah! Haba ng pila! Anung oras ako makakarating ng Marinduque (Holy Thursday), most of the people want to get early trips to Cawit or Balanacan Port.. I need got terminal fee cost P30 pesos and ferry boat - 220 pesos. Balanacan is the barangay where the main shipping port is located. It is famous for its large image of Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage, erected at a top of a shed on a mound of land overlooking the sea.
