Historical Church of Boac Cathedral in Marinduque

After dining at La Concha Restaurant in Boac. I immediately went to Boac Cathedral and take somes pictures before going to Buenavista. The church has its old gate structure and as you enter main door of the church you can see the thick and two old wooden doors.  A visit to Boac Cathedral is one sample of how an old church was preserve. According to the story inspired the creation of a new name for the Lady as Birhen ng Biglang Awa. The cathedral was dedicated to her, the 'Mother of Instant Mercy', (Pronto Socorro), in 1792. A marker on the church's front wall declares thus: "naniniwala ang mga tao na siya ang nagligtas sa pagsalakay ng mga moro noong ika-18 dantaon."

Moriones Festival April 4-5, 2012 in Boac Marinduque

The "Moriones" are men or women in costumes and masks replicating the garb of biblical Roman soldiers. Moriones Festival in Marinduque " The Heart of the Philippines" is an annual fiesta held on Holy Week in the island.  The festival is celebrated the whole province of Marinduque. I was able to witness the festival last April 4, 2012 - first day of my 2nd solo backpacking trip to South Luzon. Marinduque is considered as the Lenten Mecca of the Southern Tagalog because of the Moriones Festival. Historically, the Moriones Festival started in Mogpog, Marinduque in 1807 as a dramatic play to commemorate the passion and crucifixion of the Lord Jesus Christ. Then later on, the tradition spread to other Marinduque towns like Gasan, Boac, and Torrijos.

Welcome to Marinduque 2012: Balanacan Port in Mogpog

Yes! Marinduque the heart of the Philippines! Last Holyweek of April 2012, I had a solo backing trip to witness the Moriones Festival. I had to go early to Alabang Terminal in Muntinlupa at exactly 9:00pm, to catch up for the 12:00mn  ferry boat ride going to Balacan Port in Mogpog Marinduque. Waah! Haba ng pila! Anung oras ako makakarating ng Marinduque (Holy Thursday), most of the people want to get early trips to Cawit or Balanacan Port.. I need got terminal fee cost P30 pesos and ferry boat - 220 pesos. Balanacan is the barangay where the main shipping port is located. It is famous for its large image of Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage, erected at a top of a shed on a mound of land overlooking the sea.
